II · The LegendAs told in Lakeshire taverns

The Forge & the Flame

  1. A Forge That Never Went Cold

On the shore of Lake Everstill there was a forge that never went cold. The Lightforges were not paladins. They were smiths, three generations of them, and the Silver Hand trusted them with one quiet job: consecrating the steel its knights carried into the dark.

Every blade that left their anvil was quenched in water blessed at dawn and struck one hundred times while a prayer was spoken over it. Harper grew up between the bellows and the chapel, burning her fingers on hot iron and learning the words of the Light before she could spell them.

  2. The Healer Who Would Not Stay Back

When the Light finally answered her, the trainers in Stormwind saw a gift for mending and sent her down the Holy path. She was good at it. She was also, in the words of one exhausted instructor, “constantly in melee range of things she was told to stand behind.”

Healers are taught to keep their distance. Harper kept closing it. A smith's daughter does not learn to fix a thing from across the room.

  3. The Shock

It happened on a supply road above Lakeshire. Raiders came out of the ridge at dusk, the knight leading the column went down in the first rush, and Harper had exactly one prayer ready: Holy Shock. Light that mends a friend or burns a foe, the same words either way. The only choice is where you aim it.

She aimed it at the raider standing over the knight. Then at the knight. Then at the raider behind him. She kept alternating until the road went quiet and every wagon was still rolling. Nobody had taught her to fight like that, because officially nobody fights like that.

“The Light does not ask which hand you raise. It only asks that you raise it.”
  4. Walking WoW Forever

The guards started calling her the Shockadin, half as a joke. She kept the name and had it stitched into her tabard. In time she stopped being a healer who fights and became a fighter who heals. She took up the path of Retribution, her grandmother's two-handed hammer and all, and kept her Holy training as an off-spec for the nights a group needs it.

These days she wanders the realm in plate, hitting whoever is winning and throwing Holy Shock at whoever is losing. Raid leaders put her on the damage list and quietly hope she remembers her off-spec when things go wrong. She always does. The groups she runs with stay alive, and that is the only number she has ever cared about.

III · The ArsenalAction bar one

How a Shockadin Fights

A Retribution paladin lives in melee range with a two-handed weapon and one job: hit hard. A Shockadin does that, then reaches into the Holy off-spec mid-fight, a Holy Shock here, a heal there, whenever someone needs saving. Every global cooldown is a choice between saving someone and ending something.

The Shockadin Build

23 / 0 / 28

  • Holy23 Holy Shock · Consecrated Ground · the healing kit
  • Protection0 Untouched. The plate does the protecting.
  • Retribution28 Champion of the Light · Conviction · Holy damage over raw swings

All 51 points at level 60. The build goes just deep enough into Holy for Holy Shock and Consecrated Ground, and just deep enough into Retribution for Champion of the Light. It trades physical talents like Seal of Command for Holy damage, which suits a paladin who never really stopped being Holy.

IV · The OathSworn on the anvil

Three Tenets

Every paladin swears an oath. The Lightforges swear theirs on the anvil, one hand on the hot metal and the other on the hammer. Harper's has three parts, always spoken in this order, and she has never once broken it.

I

Protection

“Nobody falls while I am still standing.”

Protection comes first because it came first. Her family spent three generations making the steel that stood between Lakeshire and the dark, and Harper grew up knowing that a blade exists for the people behind it. She wears the heaviest plate she can carry for the same reason. The armour is not for her. It is there so that whatever is swinging hits her instead.

In a group, that means she watches the healer as closely as the boss. She peels for the casters, plants herself between the adds and whoever is weakest, and saves Divine Shield and Lay on Hands for someone else's worst moment, never her own convenience.

In practice: peel for the healer, save Lay on Hands for a friend, and only bubble when it buys the group time.

II

Helping

“The Light was never meant to be kept.”

The Holy off-spec is not a backup plan. It is a promise. Harper trained as a healer first, and she never stopped feeling responsible for every health bar in her party. When the healer goes down, runs dry or falls behind, she switches roles without being asked and without making anyone feel bad about it.

Helping does not stop when the fight ends. She runs lowbies through dungeons, hands out blessings to strangers in passing, answers questions in chat without sarcasm, and will happily spend an evening helping a guildmate finish a quest chain she completed years ago. A paladin who only helps when it is convenient is just a warrior in shinier armour.

In practice: Holy Shock whoever needs it most, bless everyone you pass, and never leave someone stuck on a quest you could finish together.

III

Aggressiveness

“The best defence has a two-handed hammer.”

This is the Retribution in her. Harper does not wait for trouble to arrive. She charges it. The fastest heal in Azeroth is an enemy that is no longer swinging, and she learned that on a supply road above Lakeshire with one prayer and no backup. Hesitation gets people killed. Pressure keeps them alive.

Aggression is not recklessness, though. It is controlled, deliberate and always aimed at whatever threatens her group. She burns the caster before it finishes its cast, pushes damage hard because a shorter fight is a safer fight, and never apologises for being the first one into the pack. The Light gave her a hammer for a reason.

In practice: Judgement on cooldown, Hammer of Wrath on every execute, and the most dangerous target dies first.

Battle cry

“By the Light, and by the hammer!”

Find her on WoW Forever

Look for the gold tabard that says <Shockadin>, standing far too close to the boss. If you need someone who hits hard and can pick up heals when the healer goes down, send a whisper. If you need a healer who stays at the back, she can recommend a few.
